The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie Muriel Spark
Man's Search for Meaning Viktor E. Frankl
Deep Conversion/Deep Prayer Thomas Dubay
Descent into Hell Charles Williams
Coming up:
Throne of Jade Naomi Novik
Map of Bones James Rollins (Unfortunately attempting to ride the DVC popularity wave, which is a shame because Rollins is so much more accomplished a writer)
Not to Disturb, Girls of Slender Means, Loitering with Intent, and A Far Cry from Kensington Muriel Spark
The Essence of the Thing Madeleine St. John
Overall, I'm trying to be more cognizant of and careful regarding my choices in reading. While it may be entertaining, I would also like a goodly portion of it to be somewhat more edifying than my usual reading list. Not all of these books qualify; however, many do and the ones that do not provide a sort of "palate cleanser" before the next course. Too much weighty stuff tends to shift the balance.
Looking forward to your review of Deep Conversion/Deep Prayer by Fr. Dubay. After reading Fire Within, Dubay's Prayer Primer was a tad bit disappointing.
Throne of Jade was excellent. The plot thickens!! :)
Dear Psalm41,
You're right, but we both should have guessed by the title that we were probably not the target audience. It's the only Dubay that I put away without completing. The Fire Within is a masterpiece, but so too The Evidentiary Power of Beauty and Happy Are You Poor. So far I have high hopes for this one. But I'll be reporting as reading continues.
shalom,
Steven
Dear Talmida,
Thanks, I'm hoping so. Linda really liked it. And the third one comes out at the end of this month, I think. I'm looking forward to it.
shalom,
Steven
