Pastoral Blue Steven Riddle

So, pastoral blue it is,
shielding, shepherding and keeping
us apart.

What would it take
to crack the brittle sky
and see beyond
the surface?

I know this sky is
only as thick as air--
a stern blue eggshell
that hides from me
the source of my new birth.
