Is There Any Place Better Than Florida to Work?

What can you say when you go down to the cafeteria and the feature is mojo pork, black beans and rice, and fried sweet plantains? Except, perhaps, yummy. That's just one of the reasons Florida is such a fantastic place to be.

Sometimes I'm almost willing to hug Fidel for sending us so many people to diversify our population and cuisine. We're definitely better for it.

Is There Any Place Better Than Florida to Work?

Well, I did just submit an application to Univ. of Florida, and with 6 F temperatures when I woke up this morning, Florida is starting to sound better and better...

Dear Brandon,

Well, that's Northern Florida, and I don't know how far the Cuban influence extends; however, the warmth does creep up that far. It generally stays above freezing, and if it does drop below it's during the night and the next day is up to 60 or so. So, yes, warmth you'll probably have if you are fortunate enough to obtain a position. If you wish to assure warmth, you might try Ave Maria University down in Naples.

shalom,

Steven

In suburban Maryland, you say, "I think I'll have the soup today."

Dear Tom,

Don't I know it--only one of the many reasons for my exodus.

shalom,

Steven

Or you could say, "why can't they ever make a proper ragu? Or at least decent panini without all that extra stuff on them?"

Or, in a complete moment of Californio pride, "well, to tell the truth, non-Mexican Latin American food is kinda dull. Ayyyyyyyyiiiiii! Viva California!"

Cuban food, though is pretty good, and I say that not simply because it is often followed by a good rum and a better cigar.

Steven,

Well, unfortunately Ave Maria doesn't offer degrees in what I am qualified to teach... I thought I heard they were supposed to be starting an engineering program, but they don't have it yet.

And so the job search goes on. Amidst sub-freezing weather conditions.

brandon.

Dear Brandon,

Well, isn't it your duty to go and drag them out of the medieval ages and disabuse them of the notion that they can put off offering the wonderful courses that you yourself could teach?

Just kidding. :-) My prayers are with you as you search--I was blessed to have escaped academia and found my present vocation. May you find happiness and bring it to others in your chosen way.

shalom,

Steven

Steven

There is looking out your office window each morning to see the tip of Pikes Peak at 14,000 ft. I see it every day and I never tire of the sight -- it forces me to look up which is always a good idea.

Cheers

Ron
